F.A.Z.: "One of Germany's most successful funds is becoming an ETF"

Private savings will soon be eligible for government subsidies, making it a worthwhile move for everyone. One of Germany's most successful funds will now also be available as an ETF.
With BIT Capital, a major proponent of active fund management is now responding to the growing importance of ETFs. Founder Jan Beckers will henceforth offer the most successful German tech equity fund, BIT Global Technology Leaders, under the securities identification number A4231H as the BIT Global Technology Leaders ETF. This makes the flagship BIT Capital strategy accessible to ETF investors for the first time—active fund management in an ETF wrapper, and at a fraction of the cost.
"We have always wanted to provide as many people as possible with a good investment in technology; we have years of experience and an established core product, but we weren't available on some broker platforms.", Beckers explains in an interview with the F.A.Z. With an annual fee of just over 0.4 percent and a 15 percent performance fee, the fund is still significantly more expensive as an ETF than MSCI World ETFs, which often charge as little as 0.05 percent annually. However, with an annual return of more than 30 percent since the fund's inception in January 2019, BIT Capital has demonstrated its ability to consistently generate additional returns beyond standard tech stocks.
Following turbulent years like 2022, the company has also recalibrated its risk management to reduce volatility. This ensures the fund will likely remain in risk class five, making it eligible for inclusion in retirement savings accounts. "In our analysis of customer inquiries, a large portion of the questions focused on why we weren't available for purchase on Trade Republic and other neobrokers.", says Beckers. Hence the move to an ETF, which is now available through providers such as ING, DKB, and Comdirect. Further actively managed ETFs are set to follow.
